Pollination.jpgPollination is what starts a flower making seeds.
The important parts are inside.

The stamen is made from a stalk
called the filament and the anther.
The anther makes pollen.
Pollen is like dust. It is usually yellow or orange.
The stamen is the male part of the flower.

In the middle is the pistil. It is the female part of the flower.
At the top of the pistil is the stigma.

The stigma collects pollen. The pollen travels down the style to the ovary.
In the ovary, the pollen meets the eggs.
Another name for the eggs is ova. A single egg is called an ovum.
Together the pollen and ova start to make seeds which can grow into new plants.

Flowers can cross-pollinate or self-pollinate. Cross-pollination is when the pollen comes from another flower.
Self-pollination is when the pollen comes from the same flower.
